All-Campus Party Recap

During the week of April 23-28th 2023, I had the supreme honor of co-directing the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board’s (WASB) annually anticipated All-Campus Party (ACP) celebration. For those who aren’t familiar, All-Campus Party week has been consistently awarded the title of the “nation’s largest cost-free and alcohol-alternative campus celebration, created for students by students.” All of our events were graciously sponsored by our ongoing partnership with Pepsi Corporation, which provided marketing materials and free beverages to make all UW-Madison students feel celebrated. Throughout the past twelve months, myself and my co-director, Carly Jennings, have put endless hours of deliberation into the fruition of a week of headlining events, which were all uniquely successful in execution!

SUNDAY, APRIL 23RD: BUCKY’S URBAN ODYSSEY

20 teams signed up to compete on an Amazing Race-style scavenger hunt across campus and the downtown area. Teams of four raced from stop to stop competing challenges at a variety of booths inspired by local businesses and campus organizations. Starting out the week on a high note, teams unleashed their competitive spirit and the top three winners were rewarded prizes sponsored by the University Book Store!

MONDAY, APRIL 24TH: BREAKFAST WITH BUCKY

We were up bright and early across five locations around campus (Library Mall, Engineering Mall, Observatory Hill, Bascom Hill, and East Campus Mall) for free breakfast! There was a variety of food choices ranging from bagels to muffins to yogurt, all brought to students in partnership with FRESH Market of Madison.

TUESDAY, APRIL 25TH: DAY OF SERVICE, CHALK THE BLOCK, BLOOD DRIVE

Students passing through Library Mall were able to participate in Day of Service, which is an event where you can have an enjoyable time while contributing to the betterment of the community. Simultaneously, we organized a Red Cross Blood Drive at the Nicholas Recreation Center as another way to focus on giving back to the community, even beating our goal of 80+ donors! Badgers got the opportunity to discover student organizations that are committed to philanthropic work and learn how to get involved, all the while making snow cones with the flavor of their choosing!

Also on Tuesday, our beloved Chalk the Block event occurred, featuring original chalk drawings by Badger artists all across the pavement in Library Mall. Students passing by could vote for their favorite creations for a big prize from our sponsors, worth upwards of $250!

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26TH: REDTALK (Featuring Harry Hudson)

We were thrilled to announce that Harry Hudson would be joining us to share his inspiring story and insights on some of the most important issues of our time.

During this event, Harry opened up about his personal struggles with mental health and how it has impacted his life. He also discussed how he expresses himself through his music and songwriting, taking us on a journey of his incredible artistic talent. Harry also shared his story of resilience, taking us through his experience with cancer and how he overcame this challenge with incredible strength and determination.

After the talk, we hosted a reception with delicious food and beverages for all attendees. Best of all, this event was completely free and open to everyone!

More about Harry:

Harry Hudson is an American singer-songwriter, cancer survivor, and philanthropist of folk-rock and pop music. His debut album, Yesterday’s Tomorrow Night, was released on Jay-Z's Roc Nation record label in partnership with Jaden and Willow Smith's MSFTS Music JV in 2018. The single "Yellow Lights" went Top 10 on Spotify's US Viral Chart, and Hudson was named one of Pandora’s Artists to Watch 2018 on the music streaming service. Harry also released the short film Can Cowboys Cry as an homage to his father who passed away earlier that year. His second album, Hey, I’m Here For You, was released in November 2020 and reached #11 on the Alternative Charts.

In 2022, Harry opened for Justin Bieber on his Justice World Tour 2022 and debuted his independent artist project, A Deer In Headlights (released on Jul 27, 2022). The EP is in collaboration with legendary recording artist & producer Mr Hudson (Kanye West, Jay-Z, Duran Duran, John Legend).

As one of the music industry's most intriguing voices, Harry is on a mission to help enhance the lives of adolescents and young adults (AYA) undergoing cancer treatment. In 2021, he spearheaded and launched his charity, Hey I’m Here For You (HIHFY), which provides resources and experiences that support patient goals, dreams, and/or newfound passions that have been ignited during a cancer journey.

THURSDAY, APRIL 27TH: ALL-CAMPUS SWAP

Students did some spring cleaning and brought clothes they don’t wear anymore to the WASB x Rewear-It crossover event! Over 200 people showed up to swap their old clothes for new clothes with fellow Badgers, while taking advantage of a free decal station, hang out with Bucky, and support a more sustainable UW!

FRIDAY, APRIL 28TH: LAKE STREET BASH

An astounding 3000+ Madison community members joined us for an afternoon of free music, food, and fun out on Lake Street! This event is the annual wrap-up celebration for All-Campus Party Week and we were so excited to invite our Badger family to celebrate with us this year again. The Mad City Spotlight portion of the event featured three fantastic musical acts selected from student bands right here on campus. There was also a chance to win some great prizes via the raffle, with free admission open to all Badgers!

JOHN W. JUNG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was created in honor of John W. Jung, class of 2001. John conceived and helped coordinate the now annual All-Campus Party (ACP), a weeklong celebration of UW-Madison that provides substance-free entertainment intended for tens of thousands of students, faculty and community members each year. Despite his dynamic leadership, ability to excel in and outside of school, and his commitment to serving others, John struggled with an ongoing battle against substance abuse and addiction. This memorial scholarship seeks to recognize students who exemplify John's traits of leadership, excellence, and service, all in pursuit of upholding the Wisconsin Idea. The recipient was recognized at the end of ACP week.

AMOUNT: $1000 toward 2022 Fall Tuition and $1000 toward 2023 Spring Tuition

A Statement from our 2023 recipient Pate:

“Hi, my name is Pate, I am from Merton, Wisconsin, and I expect to graduate in the spring of 2026. I am extremely honored to be awarded this year’s John W. Jung Memorial Scholarship, and I will do my absolute best to honor his legacy through my actions during my undergraduate years and beyond.

John certainly left a lasting positive legacy through his roles in WASB, his work in creating the all-campus party, and the many other positive impacts he had on people. To honor his legacy during my undergraduate years I will follow in John’s footsteps by providing meaningful leadership and by setting a positive example. One of the ways I plan on accomplishing this is through the work I plan on/am currently doing to improve the mental health of the student body through advocating to break down the stigmas surrounding discussions about mental health and by working to create a platform that allows Badgers to have accessible, anonymous, real-time, conversations with other Badgers about the problems that they are facing.”
